Globus cancels travel until July

Globus, one of the world’s largest tour operators and the
parent of river cruise line Avalon Waterways, has cancelled all tours, cruises
and vacation packages through June 30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While many travel companies earlier this month suspended
operations through April, they have increasingly over the past few weeks pushed
back expected restart dates through at least the end of May.

President Trump on Sunday extended until the end of April
his call for Americans to stay home and practice social distancing. Many
countries have closed their borders indefinitely.

Globus suspends all trips through end of April

Globus’ tour operator and river cruise brands on Thursday suspended all trips across all destinations
through the end of April.

“We recognize that travelers are faced with a great deal of
uncertainty right now, and we are committed to helping them through this
situation with the right options, adequate time and high levels of attention
and consideration,” said Scott Nisbet, president and CEO of the Globus family
of brands. “We are doing our best to cater to each and every traveler and help
them feel confident in their decision to explore the world with us.”

For travelers affected by the suspension, the company has a
new “Peace of Mind” plan, which lets travelers booked on affected vacations
reschedule their vacations in 2020, 2021 or 2022, to any destination on any
brand without any cancellation fees. It will also give impacted guests a $200
credit toward their new booking.

Globus did not say how many bookings would be affected, but the
90-year-old privately held company is one of the world’s largest tour
operators, offering packaged tours, independent travel and river and small-ship
cruises.

The company’s brands are

Globus, Cosmos, Avalon Waterways and Monograms.
